Styling for Autumn

Naturally, Autumn is a time of strong rich colours – rusts, oranges, browns and burgundy.

It is a season for dressing boldly with textures and patterns and incorporating bold accents of the strong autumnal colours.

Whether you are looking for inspiration for an autumnal wedding or just want to add seasonal colours to your wardrobe here are some suggestions to help you along your way.

Suits -

Autumn is a time for texture and warmth. The soft colours of summer have moved on and the richness of the season can now surface.

Think tweeds in blues, greens and browns providing suits of sufficient weight, warmth and style for this time of year. They form a strong base against which the brighter colours of the season can be highlighted.

A patterned suit provides a depth of interest and in darker shades will add personality to your style for this time of year. These work well with accessories in plainer, stronger colours or bolder floral designs reminiscent of the autumn flora.

Waistcoats -

We highly recommend a waistcoat whether with a suit or with chinos or jeans. In simple patterns in rich colours a waistcoat will work well with a darker plainer suit. Take the main tone of the suit or trouser colour and carry this through into the soft patterns of the waistcoat.

Ties -

If you add one item to your wardrobe this coming season, choose a strong tie in autumnal colours of rust, burnt orange or dark reds. Whatever the colours you are wearing, browns, greens, rusts or tweeds, this will add a warmth to your outfit.

Casual wear -

If you love your chinos swap the lighter summery tones of stone and beige for something stronger. Choose burgundy, navy or even olive. Add a shirt with interesting detail or a waistcoat in seasonal tones with the final addition of a rich floral tie.

Don’t forget that a waistcoat with chinos can turn a casual style into a smarter look and adding a double-breasted waistcoat will earn you even more styling points.
